MenAfriCar and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine use TeleForm to study meningococcal carriage in the African meningitis belt
MenAfriCar (the African Meningococcal Carriage Consortium) is a global research effort to study how meningococcal meningitis is spread in Africa and to document the impact of a new meningitis vaccine on reducing transmission.
With on-going research in seven countries across the meningitis belt of Africa, MenAfriCar needed data entry software which would efficiently collate data from thousands of study participants into one format and be able to store these records locally and also securely share this information with those involved in the project in London.
ePC created a complete custom package for the client, setting-up multi-site laptops and installing TeleForm Desktop, which would allow users to print forms and sample labels to take into the field. These completed forms are scanned into the system and verified. Finally, the data is stored both locally and in a custom-built central database in London via a secure and encrypted internet connection.
Prior to the launch of the study, our requirements changed frequently and deadlines were very tight. ePC have been very supportive in dealing with these design changes. This is not a typical project but ePC have risen to the challenge and I am happy with the progress achieved so farArouna Woukeu, IT Manager, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
This database can then retrieve the data and original form images, allowing the user to search using definable criteria from the information collected.
ePC understood the challenges of the client when designing one system that would be efficient and effective in seven different countries. The design of the system was adapted at each stage to fit these separate needs perfectly, due to the high technical abilities and acute responsiveness of ePC's development team. ePC will also continue to provide on-going support and advice throughout the lifecycle of the project, which will continue to run for several years.
